It’s a new year and a new look for the Lansing Derby Vixens (LDV), Lansing’s premier women’s flat-track roller derby league. As the skaters, coaches, officials and volunteers prepare for the 2014 season, LDV announced today a new logo and website, along with the addition of a new “C” team.
In June 2013, the Vixens we accepted as members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), roller derby’s largest and most prestigious governing body. In honor of this, LDV decided to update their overall look to be more in line with the professionalism that is part of the WFTDA culture. As modern roller derby has evolved, the culture has shifted toward an emphasis on professional athleticism.
Creating a new logo was the first step and was central to this redesign. Local graphic artist Steve Jenks, of Gravity Works Design created the original Vixens’ original logo in 2010 and LDV was glad to work with him again in crafting the updated design. The new logo is circular, featuring a more simplified form than the previous design, and incorporating the Capitol dome as well as an abstract fox tail.
The revamped website replaces the former layout with a fresh design consistent with LDV’s new look. The new site offers easier access to information like the team schedules and video content, and features information about the league’s history and current events, current skaters, how you can join the Vixens, and much more. The site’s dynamic design is also easily accessible on a home computer, tablet, and on mobile devices.
Help Us Name Our C Team!
The Lansing Derby Vixens’ newest addition, a yet unnamed third team in addition to the existing All Stars and Capital Corruption, will begin training Jan. 7 and will take on teams from across the Midwest region beginning in early 2014. This new team will allow LDV to accommodate more skaters and provide more focused training at each level. Similarly to when the Capital Corruption was created and its name chosen, fans will have a chance to vote on the new team’s new name. The C team’s name will be revealed later this month, and its 2014 schedule is still being finalized.
