Join the Lansing Derby Vixens! We are starting a series of Bootcamps in December and January, designed to teach you the basics of skating and derby, and will be starting our next Basic Training class in January 2017! Come skate, hit, and win with the Vixens!

Bootcamp information: The Bootcamps will be held on 12/4, 12/11, 1/8, and 1/15 at the Westside Y in Lansing from 9-11 am. You’ll learn the basics of skating, including the correct form and important things like how to stop (and how to fall safely!). The vast majority of Vixens did not know how to skate when they started, so we love teaching others how to skate!

The first bootcamp you go to costs $15; the second will cost $10, and the third and fourth only $5! And you will also get a discount on Basic Training depending on how many Boot Camps you come to — so come to as many as you can!

We have some pads and skates available (let us know your size ahead of time!); all you need to bring is a mouthguard and a great attitude! (We strongly recommend SISU mouthguards — you can find other mouthguards at Meijer or sporting goods stores, etc., but they’re bulky and you’ll hate it and end up buying a SISU eventually anyway, so just go ahead and get one now.) Wear comfortable athletic clothing that isn’t too bulky or baggy, and bring a water bottle!

For more information, or to ask about availability of skates and gear, contact recruitment@lansingderbyvixens.com.

Basic Training information: Basic Training will begin on January 29th, and will also be at the Westside Y from 9-11 am. This is a weekly training course that focuses on developing the skills and fitness to be a Lansing Derby Vixen!

Attending the Boot Camps is helpful, but not required, to join Basic Training. In Basic Training, you’ll learn even more about skating, plus you’ll also learn about derby and prepare yourself to join the Vixens upon graduation. Your Boot Camp instructors will guide you through the required skills and have you ready to take the track.

Join the fastest-growing sport in the world (and the only full-contact sport for women!) and become a Lansing Derby Vixen. All shapes and sizes are welcome — there’s a role for everyone in roller derby! With the Vixens, you’ll find a supportive group of women who will be there for you on and off the track, and a group of women who #loveLansing and make it their mission to promote their community as much as they promote fitness and roller derby.

Come see what it’s all about! Skate! Hit! Win! with the Vixens!cropped-final_color-cropped.png

Hey, I was hoping to come to the 12/4/16 boot camp, but I dont have any pads or skates of my own. Could I get a loaner set to try out? Skate size would be womens 9.5/10ish, and Im not sure how pads are sized, but in normal clothes I’m 12/14. Thanks a bunch!

How old is too old? Be honest 🙂

We have women on our team who are in their late 40s — still going strong! And one of our recently retired skaters, skating on our All-Stars team, was over 50!
