Who are we?!? VIXENS!

The Lansing Derby Vixens were established in April 2010 to bring the reimagined sport of women’s flat track roller derby to Lansing, Michigan. We are a non-profit, community-minded league.

We are strong, dedicated women who value teamwork, loyalty, commitment and, when we’re on the track, knockin’ each other around on skates.

Behind these skaters is a group of women and men who support us in everything from merchandise sales to refereeing … all volunteer. This is do-it-yourself derby and, while we don’t get paid, the rewards are higher than you can imagine.

You may think you know roller derby, but this ain’t the derby from the 1970s and 80s. Today’s derby is a serious sport with serious rules. And no, you can’t throw elbows. But don’t let that fool you. Just because we’re more like hockey than professional wrestling these days doesn’t mean these skaters are any less tough.

As of this writing, there are more than 20 teams in Michigan alone, with more than 400 worldwide. In all, some 30,000 women play roller derby globally and that number is growing every day.

So how does roller derby actually work? Check out this cool video for more information.
