The Lansing Derby Vixens are Lansing’s premier women’s flat-track roller derby league, featuring skaters, referees and volunteers from all walks of life. We believe in empowering women and promoting fitness, a healthy body image, community spirit and the #lovelansing movement.
Formed in April 2010, the Vixens began as a group of women with an idea that roller derby is an essential part of any “cool city,” so they strapped on skates, pads and helmets and got down to the business of building a team from the ground up.
Though a young league, the Vixens are committed to creating a nationally competitive team of women dedicated to the sport, their team and our city.
Vixens in the Community
The Vixens are a not-for-profit league and a portion of all proceeds from each bout is donated to a local charity chosen by the skaters. In our 2011 season, we partnered with such charities as Gateway Community Services, Ele’s Place, Capital Area Humane Society and Eve, Inc, donating nearly $10,000.
In addition to charitable donations, the Vixens believe in being an active member of the community by volunteering at local events. To date, we’ve worked at the Board of Water & Light Chili Cook-Off, Hawk Island Triathalon, Ele’s Race, Max’s Race, Relay for Life, Lansing Pride Parade, Be a Tourist in Your Own Town, TEDxLansing, Old Town Festival of the Moon, Lansing Jaycees Monster Mayhem haunted house, Lansing Jazz Festand more. In fact, the Vixens have spent nearly 2,000 hours volunteering in 2011.
